Green Technology : Electric Green Taxiing System

Electric Green Taxiing System

What is EGTS?

  • EGTS is an electric taxiing system which allows aircraft to taxi and pushback without requiring the use of aircraft engines.
  • Motors housed in main landing gear wheels.
  • APU generator powered motors allow aircraft to “taxi”

BENEFITS:

This is designed to reduce:
  • ·         Fuel volumes used by aircraft.

  • ·         Greenhouse gas emissions during ground operations.

  • ·         Ground tug operation.

  • ·         No engines running in gate area which reduce accident and incident.

  • ·         Noise in the airport environment.
Honeywell and Safran working on EGTS. The EGTS system was first demonstrated during the Paris Air Show in 2013 on AIRBUS model.
